Agroseguro took part this week in the 18th International Congress of ALASA (Latin American Association for the Development of Agricultural Insurance), held in collaboration with the Brazilian government.
The event was opened on Tuesday by Brazil’s Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Fávaro, who also led a special tribute honouring five leading figures in the field of agricultural insurance. Among them was Ignacio Machetti, President of Agroseguro, recognised for his outstanding contribution to the international development of agricultural insurance and for advancing the global exchange of knowledge in the sector as well as his long-standing involvement as a board member of ALASA and Vice President of AIAG (the International Association of Agricultural Production Insurers).
Machetti also played an active role in the working sessions, chairing a roundtable on international experiences in agricultural insurance, featuring representatives from the United States, China, and Brazil. He also participated on behalf of AIAG in a session titled “The Role of Associations in Strengthening Agricultural Resilience”, joined by insurance associations from Colombia, Brazil, and Mexico. The Agroseguro delegation included General Manager Sergio de Andrés and Elsa Sánchez, Head of Strategy and Corporate Governance and coordinator of the Group’s international activities. Over the course of the four-day event, they engaged in a series of bilateral meetings with international stakeholders. Spain’s agricultural insurance system is regarded as a global benchmark, known for its successful public-private model, wide-ranging coverage, and continuous development. Agroseguro itself is recognised internationally for its effective management and over 45 years of experience in the sector.
The Congress, titled “Protecting the Future of Agriculture: Securing Tomorrow”, took place at the International Convention Centre in Brasília and ran until Thursday. It also included field visits to pioneering farms and livestock operations known for their innovation, sustainability, and productivity. Participants included representatives from insurance and reinsurance companies, financial institutions, government bodies, international organisations, and agricultural sector groups from across Latin America, along with global players such as Spain, Germany, France, the UK, Switzerland, the US, India, and China.
